Since the very first Triennial in 1968, there have been several prizes awarded to the artists. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize and diplomas were awarded from 1968 till 1977, since 1980 there existed three equal prizes. Special prizes have been awarded since 1971. Since 1986 for the first time the grand prix and 2 equal prizes, since 1989 the grand prix and 3 equal prizes are awarded. 1989 is also the year since when the prizes are given also to artists outside the Baltic region. The tradition that the winner of previous year’s Triennial makes diplomas for the next Triennial has been kept since 1971.
